Christian Education

Sunday School Classes are held for pre-K through adult age people on Sunday mornings at 9:40 am. Teachers are supported in this effort by the Rector and vestry. Nursery is provided during the Sunday school hours.

Episcopal Youth Community (EYC)

The EYC is the focal point for youth ministry in the congregation. Emphasis is on community building and fellowship in a Christian Environment. EYC meets on Wednesday nights. They begin with a short prayer service led by the youth. They then enjoy a scrumptious dinner, prepared by some of the parents, and then head upstairs to start their lesson for the night. This year they are focusing on a program called "The Me I Want to Be." This program has a video that goes along with each lesson and depicts things that teens face in daily life.EYC groups become a spring board for activities in the larger church of the Diocese, such as YES and HAPPENING programs and for ministry in the local community.

EYC is for young people in junior and senior high school. The group is very welcoming and love to add people to the community! If you have any questions you can contact Kathy Westmoreland our youth director at kbaerw@gmail.com

During the past year the group has completed a study of "Experiencing God's Peace in Philippians". Also, this past year members have begun making soup for those in need. Members also hosted a Quiet Day of Prayer on All Saints Day for all interested with coffee and refreshments provided.

Youth Mission Trips

As part of the missionary outreach of St. Mark’s, our EYC youth leader coordinates summer missionary trips to regions within the United States. Focus is given to regions of the country in need of basic resources for daily living, as well as areas in need of pastoral care and guidance. In July of 2011, 25 youth and adults traveled with several other churches from the Diocese of Texas to Copperhill, TN. The 2011 Missionpalooza mission trip accomplished construction, cleaning and painting projects for the needy, worked on an environmental project in the Cherokee National Forest, and assisted persons with special needs in the Industrial Opportunities Factory to manufacture goods for the armed forces of our country.

Our EYC Missionpalooza teams also traveled in the years 2006, 2007 & 2008 to Bay St. Louis, MS. to help those devastated after Hurricane Katrina. We traveled to Beaumont in 2010 to help with rebuilding projects after Hurricane Ike. In the summers of 2012 and 2013, in conjunction with 11 other churches from our diocese, the Missionpalooza mission group traveled to Bastrop, Texas to help with cleaning, debris removal, construction projects and reforesting after the great wildfires of 2011. We hope also to put together backpacks filled with school supplies for needy elementary school children in the Bastrop area.In addition to our service and volunteer work, we will participate in daily devotionals, along with evening programs, which include worship and music.
